Geheimtipp: If You Like Pinot Noir, Try These Organic Wines
Gaby and Jens Heinemeyer produce organic Pinot Noir wines that according to my German wife taste anything but German (she means it as a praise). This place is worth a visit for the view alone.
The view from the steep slopes down to the Rhine River almost made me forget why we were there. The riverboats on the river and cars on the winding roads along the waterway looked like miniature playthings from up here.
However we weren’t here for the view. We were here, because Gaby Heinemeyer wanted to show us, where she and her husband Jens grow the grapes for their famed Pinot Noir wines that even my wife, who is not a great fan of German wines, enjoys.
The sun was beating down on us this summer. And Gaby told us that in the middle of the summer, they can only work the fields in the early hours of the morning.
I believed her.
Rather to describe the taste sensations I will rather point out that according to sommeliers that I have interviewed over the years, this wine maker is one of the best in Germany with several accolades to his name. And unlike the French wine makers in Burgundy these wines are still more or less affordable for ordinary people.
The 2015 Present wine (Pinot Noir) is one of the best that the couple as produced. I still have a couple of bottles in my secret stash. I couldn’t find the price online, but the vintage 2020 can be bought online for 60 euros a bottle. Trust me. It’s worth it.

I will recommend that you follow the exploits of Jens Heinemeyer. he has been deeply involved in fueling the Danish and Northern German wine production. That story can be found here.
